Inspection for precision straightness:

Precision straightened rod is checked for straightness when supported on rollers at 42-inch intervals. Rods shorter than 42 inches shall be supported at both ends. The rod is placed on a precision table equipped with supports and ball bearing rollers. The rod is slowly rotated with a dial indicator against the outside diameter. The deviation from straightness in any portion of the rod between the supports shall not exceed above limits. The deviation from straightness (also called throw) is the difference between the maximum and minimum readings on the dial indicator in one complete revolution of the rod. This necessarily includes the throw caused by ovality of the rod as well as that caused by out of straightness.
